Ok, here is a test for all of you native English speakers. This is all material that I am suppose to teach my 9th grade students (ages range from 14 to 21).
1)Write one sentence in present simple (affirmative).
2)Write one sentence in present simple (negative).
3)Write one sentence in present continuous (affirmative).
4)Write one sentence in present continuous (negative).
5)List three prepositions of time.
6)List one comparative adjective and one superlative adjective.
Ok, did you pass the test or do you have to repeat 9th grade again? Here are the answers:
1)I eat bread.
2)He does not eat Matapa (local Mozambican dish).
3)She is washing clothes.
4)We are not sleeping.
5)at, in, on
Examples: I sleep at night.
I went to America in August.
He went to Maputo on Thursday.
6)taller, tallest
Example: Anita is taller than Arlindo.
Anita is the tallest.
It is boring to teach this dry grammar, so I try to substitute fun activities once in a while. For example, I like to teach my students a song or teach them American slang.
Well, I moved houses and now I live at the school. I moved because there were 9 teachers living in a two bedroom house. So, I live with another PCV and we each have our own bedrooms. My new house is cement and does not have water problems (my old house leaked when it rained). I do not have a toilet now, but just a hole in the ground. So, I have to squat when I go to the bathroom. It is hard to do that!!!! My house is on the school property, so I live right next to the director (principal) and pedagogical directors (assistant principals).
I only have 10 more months here. The time has flown by...
